5 letters

The anatomy

Four paragraphs. Each with one job.

Every sample follows the same shape, so you can see the pattern and reuse it.

  1. 01

    Hook

One specific line about this company or this role.

  2. 02

    Proof

One project or result, with a number and a timeframe.

  3. 03

    Fit

Two or three requirements from the job post, answered with evidence.

  4. 04

    Ask

A small, specific next step and a thank-you.

The samples

Pick a role. Read it with the notes.

The numbered markers match the notes. All five are in the kit as editable Word files and in the annotated guide.

Dana Whitfield
Engineering Manager
Brightloop

Dear Dana Whitfield,

When I booked a dentist appointment through Brightloop last spring, it took me under a minute, on my phone, one-handed. I've been trying to build forms that feel like that ever since, and I'd love to do it on your team as a Junior Frontend Developer.

Over the past year I rebuilt the booking flow for a local climbing gym as a freelance project. I moved it from a three-page form to a single responsive page in React and TypeScript, added inline validation, and cut the average time to book from about four minutes to under two, based on the gym's own analytics.

Your job post mentions accessibility and a shared component library. I tested the gym project with a screen reader and keyboard only, fixed 23 issues along the way, and documented every component in Storybook so the next developer could pick it up without me.

I'd welcome a short call to show you the project and hear what your team is building next. Thank you for reading.

Kind regards,

Alex Moreno

Priya Natarajan
Head of Marketing
Fernway Travel

Dear Priya Natarajan,

Fernway's "48 hours in" guides are the reason I booked a trip to Lisbon last year, so I read your Content Marketing Specialist post twice. I'd love to help more people find their next trip through stories like those.

At Copperleaf Outdoors I run a two-person content team. In 18 months we grew organic blog traffic from 40,000 to 115,000 monthly visits by rebuilding our guides around search intent and refreshing our 60 best-performing posts every quarter.

I also launched our email newsletter, which now reaches 22,000 subscribers with an average open rate of 41%. I write every issue the way I'd want a friend to recommend a trail: short, specific, and honest about the hard parts.

You mentioned a plan to expand into video. I'd be glad to share a short pitch for turning your top ten guides into a vertical video series. Thank you for your time; I look forward to talking.

Kind regards,

Jordan Lee

Monica Alvarez
Nurse Manager
Riverside Children's Clinic

Dear Monica Alvarez,

I'm applying for the Registered Nurse position on your pediatric ward. For the past four years I've worked on a busy 24-bed pediatric unit, and the part of the job I'm proudest of is the moment a nervous child lets me take their temperature without tears.

On my current unit I care for four to five patients per shift, from post-surgical recovery to asthma and diabetes management. I helped design a picture-based pain scale card for children aged 3 to 7, which our unit now uses on every admission.

I hold an active RN license, BLS and PALS certification, and I precept new graduate nurses. Riverside's family-centered care model, especially letting parents stay overnight, matches how I already work: the family is part of the care team.

I'm available for interviews on weekdays after 3 p.m. Thank you for considering my application.

Kind regards,

Taylor Brooks

Hiring Team
Graduate Programs
Northgate Analytics

Dear Hiring Team,

I'll graduate in May with a degree in Economics and a minor in Statistics, and I'm applying to Northgate's Graduate Analyst Program because I want to spend my first years learning how real businesses make decisions with data.

For my senior project I analyzed three years of public bike-share data for my city. Using Python and SQL I found that 30% of weekday trips started at just 12 stations, and I presented a rebalancing plan to two members of the city's transport office.

Outside class I worked 15 hours a week as a campus library assistant, where I built a simple dashboard that helped the team schedule staff around busy hours. It taught me to explain numbers to people who don't love spreadsheets.

I'd be grateful for the chance to talk about how I can contribute to your next cohort. Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,

Riley Chen

Chris Okonkwo
Director of Customer Experience
Lumen Home

Dear Chris Okonkwo,

Lumen Home's promise of "one reply, problem solved" is exactly how I've tried to run support teams, and I'd like to bring that experience to your Customer Support Team Lead role.

For the last three years I've led a team of nine agents at Tidewater Appliances. We moved from email-only support to chat and email, rewrote 80 help-center articles, and raised our first-contact resolution rate from 62% to 78% while ticket volume grew by a third.

I believe good leads make themselves less necessary. I set up weekly ticket reviews where agents coach each other, and two people from my team have since been promoted to senior roles. Our team satisfaction score has stayed above 4.5 out of 5 for six quarters.

I'd welcome the chance to discuss how your team handles peak season and where I could help most. Thank you for your consideration.

Kind regards,

Morgan Diaz

The final checklist

It's on the last page of the guide too. Try ticking it here.

0 of 7

Phrases to cut

They could describe anyone, so they tell the reader nothing. The guide shows what to write instead: a fact.

  • hard-working
  • passionate
  • team player
  • fast learner
  • detail-oriented
  • great asset
  • I believe I would be
  • To whom it may concern

Instead of "a fast learner"

"I picked up Storybook in a weekend and documented every component in the gym project."

Everything opens in the tools you already use.

Questions

What do I get exactly?

Five editable cover letters as Word files (A4 and US Letter), the annotated guide as Word and PDF, PDF copies of every letter, the two fonts with their licenses, and a short README. You get the files instantly as a download.

Does it work in Google Docs?

Yes. Upload a .docx to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs. Fraunces and DM Sans are Google Fonts, so the type comes through as designed. It also opens in Word, Pages and LibreOffice.

Is it ATS friendly?

The letters are plain, single-column documents: real text, no tables, text boxes or images. That's the layout most application systems read without trouble, but no template can promise how a specific system behaves, so we won't.

Can I copy a sample letter as-is?

Please don't. The people, companies and numbers are fictional. The samples show the moves; your letter needs your own true details, which is what makes it work.

What does it cost?

Pay what you want, from €0. If it helps you land an interview, €5 keeps us making more.
