How to write a check-in people actually read

Short, specific, and with the blocker first. A small style guide for written updates.

A calendar with a checkmark next to an hourglass

A good check-in takes two minutes to write and twenty seconds to read.

Lead with the blocker

If something is stuck, say it first and name who could help.

Be specific

“Worked on onboarding” says little. “Shipped the new welcome email, testing the reminder next” says a lot.

Keep it short

Three to five lines is plenty. Link to the details instead of pasting them.
