Why we stopped doing the morning call

Swapping a 15-minute call for a two-minute written check-in, and what we learned along the way.

Sticky notes, a mug and a paper plane on a pastel desk

Our team spans four time zones. The morning call was someone’s evening and someone else’s very early start, so we tried something simpler: write it down.

Three prompts, every day

Each person answers the same three questions:

  1. What moved since yesterday?
  2. What’s next?
  3. Is anything in the way?

That’s it. Most answers fit in a few lines.

What changed

People read updates when their day starts instead of waiting for a call. Blockers get noticed earlier because they’re written down and pinned, not mentioned in passing.
